Prefer STDEV.S in new work
STDEV is the name Excel used before 2010, when the statistical functions were
split into explicitly named sample and population versions. Both names work and always agree, and
STDEV is kept so older workbooks recalculate unchanged.
In a new sheet, STDEV.S says what it computes. With the old
names, the only way to tell the sample version from the population one is to remember which has the P.
